Wing Commander Meuna Heendeniya was born on 23rd August 1979 and joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as an Officer Cadet of the Intake 38 on 20th July 2000 after completion of studies at Royal College, Colombo. On completion of the Basic and Advanced phases of training, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Electronics Engineering branch on 08th February 2002.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Postgraduate Diploma in Defence Management from the Sir John Kothalawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. In January 2019 he attended the Defence Services Command and Staff College at Sapugaskanda, Sri Lanka which earned him the distinguished title “psc” and was awarded a Master of Science for Defence and Strategic Studies from the Sir John Kothalawala Defence University, Sri Lanka and currently he is studying for Masters Degree on Labour Relations and Human Recourses Management at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
During his career, he has held a number of Engineering Management appointments. Some of the significant appointments held are: Officer in Charge Avionics of the No.7 Helicopter Squadron, Officer Commanding Maintenance of the No.3 Air Defence Radar Squadron, Officer Commanding Avionics of the No.4 VVIP Helicopter Squadron, Electronics Engineering Officer of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in Central African Republic and Officer Commanding Electronics of the Air Force Academy. Presently he is serving as a Military Research Officer for Institute of National Security Studies
which is the think tank of Ministry of Defence.
He also attended courses on INDRA MK II Radar maintenance in India, Electronics Officers’ Advance Course at Air Force Academy in Pakistan and Advance Professional Knowledge Course at Air Force Technical College in India.
